Peru's President Fujimori Inspects El Niño Prevention Works as Progress Figures Are Reported

Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori inspected El Niño prevention works on Friday, October 16, with the National Water Authority (ANA) and the national infrastructure authority (ANIN) reporting selective completion figures: physical works at Los Ejidos–Puente Bolognesi stood at 100 percent, while San Ildefonso and San Carlos were at 78.8 percent and 69.5 percent respectively, with other desilting and river-defence projects continuing.
Peru, on South America's Pacific coast, faces recurring flood risk from El Niño rains, particularly along its northern coast. Prevention works focus on river desilting, embankment reinforcement and bridge protection ahead of the rainy season.
The figures published were project-level physical progress; schedules for the remaining desilting and defence works are to be announced as construction proceeds. (GSM, based on Peruvian official information compiled by Particle News)
