World-Premiere Play 'RORSCHACH' Opens October 17 at Skylight Theatre in Los Feliz, Running Through November 22

LOS ANGELES — RORSCHACH, a new play by Kelly Younger directed by Cameron Watson, previewed at 8 p.m. on October 15 and 16 at the Skylight Theatre (1816 1/2 N. Vermont Ave.) in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, and opens on Saturday, October 17 at 8 p.m. The world-premiere production runs through November 22, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
The production is a world premiere supported by STAR, the Skylight Theatre Artist Residency program. The theatre describes it as a funny, inventive, and surprisingly tender new play about the art and science of perception, the courage to be seen for who we truly are, and the mysterious, blotted shape of love itself, inviting audiences to ask the question that changes everything: "What do you see?" The title refers to the Rorschach test, the psychological method built on interpreting symmetrical inkblots.
Watson is Skylight's artistic director, and RORSCHACH is his first show in the role. "Kelly's play has been in my heart ever since I first read it and we started working on it together. I have never been able to shake it," Watson said in a statement released by the theatre. "This is a rare collaboration: a Los Angeles-born and bred playwright, an all-Los Angeles design team and cast — presenting a world premiere play set in Los Angeles as my first show as Artistic Director of the legendary Skylight Theatre." Younger said: "It's rare for a theatre to produce a new play, so I'm incredibly grateful that the Skylight Theatre is taking a chance on RORSCHACH. A play about inkblots? Yes. But at its heart it's a love story about how we see each other, how badly we want to be seen for who we truly are, and how mysterious and messy and wonderful that can be."
The cast features Paul Culos as Emil, Mitch Ross as Hermann, Linzi Fenix as Olive, Tessa Claire Hersh as Dana, Elijah McNally as Justin, and Carolina Rodriguez as Aimee. Production photographs of the play were released on October 16.
