Arkansas's Independent Citizens Commission has approved 2 percent pay raises for elected state officials and judicial officers, according to state media reports around October 16. The governor's annual salary will rise from $168,439 to $171,808, the attorney general's from $155,298 to $158,404, and the salaries of the secretary of state, treasurer, auditor and land commissioner will rise in parallel. State senators and representatives will go from $45,696 to $46,610.

In the judiciary, the Supreme Court chief justice's salary rises to $244,891, circuit judges to $214,841 and district judges to $187,986. Prosecutors' pay, set by formula linked to judicial salaries, adjusts accordingly.

Under Article 19, Section 31 of the Arkansas Constitution, a salary adjustment takes effect 10 days after the commission files its signed resolution with the Auditor of State. The higher salaries will be on the books before the winners of the November 3 election for governor and the other constitutional offices are sworn in in January.
