Lamont Responds as Eversource Appeals PURA Storm Cost Decision

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · States · GSM News

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Acting Commissioner Emma Cimino released statements on October 16 in response to an appeal filed that day by Eversource with the Connecticut Superior Court. The appeal seeks hundreds of millions of dollars from ratepayers that was denied by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) in a decision on storm recovery costs, including more than $7 million in vendor costs deemed imprudent.

'This is an absurd money grab by Eversource, and we won't stand for it. Our ratepayers cannot afford to pay any more, nor should they have to,' Lamont said. Cimino said PURA's job is to ensure ratepayer dollars are spent appropriately under legal standards, and that the department respects the decision and believes Eversource should as well.

Also on October 16, Lamont announced the opening of the 2026-2027 Serve Connecticut Community Impact Award for high school students; in the prior school year, 156 students from 67 high schools earned the award, logging more than 15,000 service hours.
