Braun Announces SBA Low-Interest Disaster Loans for June Storm Damage

Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced on October 16 that the U.S. Small Business Administration has issued a disaster declaration for Indiana counties affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flash flooding from June 6 through June 26, 2026, opening access to low-interest disaster loans for residents and business owners who incurred damage. 'Indiana has been hit hard this year by severe weather,' Braun said. 'I remain committed to fighting for every Hoosier who has been impacted this year and am grateful to our federal partners for providing support to those who are still recovering.'
Eligible primary counties are Elkhart, Gibson, Harrison, Jefferson, Lake and Warrick, along with 23 contiguous counties including Clark, Crawford, Dubois, Floyd and Porter. Available loans include business physical disaster loans and economic injury disaster loans, and private nonprofits are also eligible; damage outside the June 6-26 window is not covered.
Also on October 16, Braun urged residents displaced by August flooding to apply for FEMA assistance before the October 25 deadline. About 200 residents remain in the state's emergency shelter program, and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security will lead the transition from state-funded hotel stays to rental housing; a federal major disaster declaration approved in August covers 21 Indiana counties.
