Saturday, October 17, 2026 · States · GSM News

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon visited Manchester, New Hampshire, on her 'Return Education to the States' tour, drawing attention to Governor Kelly Ayotte's school voucher program. Excerpts from a press conference held during the visit, circulated on October 16, showed local educators and parents challenging the program.

'Real leadership means being accountable for the choices you make with public money,' said Cindy Stewart, an at-large member of the Manchester Board of School Committee.

Southside Middle School parent Christina Goodwin questioned how the state can expand the program while, she said, public education remains underfunded. The debate over using public funds for private school tuition remains a central education issue in the state.
