Virginia Governor Goes Viral at HBCU Homecomings as Millions Flow to Universities
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger appeared at homecoming celebrations at Virginia State University and Norfolk State University in October, with videos of the visits going viral, HBCU GameDay reported on October 15 and updated on October 16. The governor had danced with graduates at Virginia State's commencement in May.
State budget allocations continue to flow to Virginia's public historically Black colleges and universities, supporting academic programs, workforce development and partnerships extending beyond their campuses, according to the report, which noted the statewide figure is not exclusively HBCU funding.
For Virginia State and Norfolk State, the commitments provide resources for academic programs and workforce development, while how much of the funding has been spent and what measurable results it has produced remain open questions.
