Saturday, October 17, 2026 · States · GSM News

Governor Patrick Morrisey announced on October 16 that $9 million in new federal funding will expand college and career opportunities in West Virginia.

The initiative builds on Morrisey's efforts to expand workforce education and credentialing, the Governor's Office said, as the state prepares for more than 19,000 projected jobs associated with approximately $96 billion in announced private-sector investment since October 2025.

'That's how we strengthen our workforce, make life more affordable and build a stronger West Virginia,' Morrisey said. Also on October 16, the governor announced Disaster Unemployment Assistance for residents of Fayette, Harrison and Kanawha counties affected by severe storms and flooding from August 14-18, with a filing deadline of December 7, 2026.
