Hochul Announces 1.5 Million New Yorkers Can Receive Help With Home Heating Costs; HEAP Opens November 2

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · States · GSM News

Governor Kathy Hochul announced on October 16 that about 1.5 million New Yorkers can receive hundreds of dollars to help cover home heating costs this winter through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Applications open on November 2.

'While Washington makes it harder to keep the lights on, New York is making sure families stay warm. With winter coming, no one should have to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table,' Assemblymember Michaelle C. Solages said in the governor's announcement. 'HEAP opens November 2. If you are eligible, apply. This help is yours.'

Assemblymember Rebecca A. Seawright said heating assistance is essential for older adults on fixed incomes, who can be especially vulnerable during the cold winter months, and that her community office stands ready to help residents navigate the process. HEAP provides heating-cost assistance to low-income working families and older adults. (GSM, based on the governor's release)
