A long-time couple from Kent, Ohio, won the top prize on the Ohio Lottery's $50 '50th Anniversary' scratch-off, a prize of $600,000 a year for 25 years, or $15 million, the Ohio Lottery said in a news release on October 15, reported by the Akron Beacon Journal. The woman picked out the ticket at the Circle K at 530 Chestnut St. in Ravenna and played it at home.

Not believing what they were seeing, the couple scanned the ticket using the Ohio Lottery app. 'It said $600,000 and that's when they started to believe that they had actually won,' the release said. The next day, they called off work and took the ticket to the lottery's regional office to confirm the win.

They chose the cash option of $7.5 million; after mandatory 26.75 percent state and federal withholding, they will receive $5,493,750. They plan to invest the money and provide for their children. As of October 14, two of the game's three top prizes remained, along with three second-tier $1 million prizes paid as $40,000 a year for 25 years; overall odds of winning are 1 in 3.97.
