USDA Delivers About $259.4 Million in Safety Net and Conservation Payments to Kentucky Producers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency announced in Lexington on October 16 that it is delivering approximately $259.4 million in farm safety net and conservation program payments to Kentucky farmers, ranchers and landowners. USDA recently announced nationwide safety net assistance totaling $13.8 billion in gross payments through the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2025 crop year, plus an additional $1.8 billion in Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) annual payments for 2026.
'These dollars help producers and landowners in our state cover operating expenses, purchase supplies and equipment, and do business with local companies, creating a positive economic ripple effect throughout our rural communities,' said David Wayne, FSA State Executive Director in Kentucky.
The Working Families Tax Cuts Act strengthens ARC and PLC beginning with the 2025 crop year, including higher statutory reference prices; for 2025 only, producers automatically receive the higher payment rate of either program regardless of their election. The payment limit rises from $125,000 to $155,000, and is $160,000 for the 2025 crop year. Eleven Kentucky crops triggered PLC payments for 2025: barley, canola, corn, dry peas, grain sorghum, oats, rice-long grain, seed cotton, soybeans, sunflower seed and wheat.
