Trump Campaigns at Dalton Airport Rally in Georgia, Backing Collins and Jackson

President Donald Trump held a rally on Friday afternoon, October 16, inside a hangar at Dalton Municipal Airport in Dalton, Georgia, campaigning for Republican candidates. Doors opened at 11:30 a.m., and Trump took the stage at about 4:20 p.m., with roughly 1,200 supporters in the grandstands, according to local reporting. It was his first return to Dalton since January 2021. The city, in Whitfield County, is a manufacturing center in northwest Georgia known for its carpet and flooring industry.
Trump used the speech to endorse two Republicans: Representative Mike Collins, who is challenging incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff for a U.S. Senate seat, and Rick Jackson, who is running for governor. He also brought former Georgia running back and retired professional football player Todd Gurley onto the stage. The remarks ranged across immigration enforcement and foreign policy, and he repeated his vow that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon. According to Reuters, while discussing Iran, Trump joked about the popularity of the name Mohammad among Muslims, saying that if in doubt about a name from the Middle East, "just say 'Mohammad'" because "you have about a 65% chance" — a line that drew a muted response from the crowd. Rights advocates have repeatedly criticized such rhetoric.
Dalton was one stop on Trump's final-month midterm campaign swing through Republican states; he is scheduled to appear in Highland Heights, Kentucky, on Saturday. Georgia's Senate race is seen as one of the contests that could help decide control of Congress. Election Day is November 3. (GSM, based on Reuters reporting)
