SAN DIEGO — San Diego is a city in San Diego County, California. Old Town San Diego State Historic Park will hold its Día de los Muertos celebration from Saturday, October 31 through Monday, November 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with a community altar at Plaza de Armas and memorial altars (altares de muertos) displayed across the park's museums honoring Old Town's historic residents.

According to California State Parks, the three-day program includes altar displays at La Casa de Estudillo and La Casa de Machado y Stewart, a San Diego Unified student art exhibition titled Memory • Healing • Belonging, a La Calavera Catrina fashion gallery, and free hands-on art (paper flowers and papel picado) on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Plaza de Armas. Wooden butterflies for the community altar carry a suggested $5 donation, and a sugar-skull workshop charges a $10 materials fee. The fourth annual La Catrina Contest takes place Sunday, November 1 at 2 p.m. at Plaza de Armas, children first, then adults.

The celebration closes with a candlelit procession on Monday, November 2 at 6 p.m., hosted by the Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce, proceeding from Twiggs Street along San Diego Avenue to El Campo Santo Cemetery; the public can watch on the main-stage screen at the plaza or along the route.

State Parks notes that all California State Parks parking lots charge a fee during the event and Lot F will be closed, with overflow parking at the CalTrans lot at 4300 Taylor Street, San Diego. The Old Town Transit Center at 4009 Taylor Street adjoins the park. Fiesta de Reyes, a commercial plaza inside the park, runs separate programming under a different organizer.
