42nd AIDS Walk Los Angeles Held in West Hollywood Today; Some 20,000 Expected

Los Angeles is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The 42nd AIDS Walk Los Angeles takes place on Sunday, Oct. 18 in West Hollywood, starting and finishing at West Hollywood Park. According to an official announcement by organizer APLA Health, it is the event's 42nd consecutive year raising funds for HIV/AIDS prevention and patient services.
Local media reported that this year's walk is expected to draw about 20,000 participants. The route is a roughly two-mile loop taking about 45 minutes. From 9 a.m., the park hosts community booths, food trucks and music, with an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The City of West Hollywood also issued traffic advisories for the event: stretches of San Vicente Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard will face closures or lane controls that day, and drivers are urged to plan detours.
AIDS Walk Los Angeles is organized by APLA Health (formerly AIDS Project Los Angeles), which has operated federally qualified community health centers in Los Angeles County since 1983, serving more than 23,000 people a year with medical, dental, mental-health and HIV care services. The organization said funds raised will support HIV prevention, housing assistance and food relief programs.
