Coast Film & Music Festival Runs in Laguna Beach Through October 25, With 80-Plus Documentaries and Irvine Bowl Concerts
LAGUNA BEACH — The eighth annual Coast Film & Music Festival opened on October 16 in Laguna Beach, Orange County, and runs through October 25. According to the announcement issued by the Coast Film Foundation via Business Wire, this year's festival brings more than 80 documentary films to Laguna Beach, along with live music and filmmaker conversations.
The festival kicked off with a sold-out screening of SURFILMUSIC, Chris Malloy's documentary about singer Jack Johnson's journey from surfer and filmmaker to internationally recognized musician, followed by an opening-night celebration at the Surfing Heritage and Culture Center. Other film highlights include Los Lobos: Native Sons, Cookie Queens, Remaining Native and The Last Place on Earth. Special guests include adventure photographer Chris Burkard, three-time surfing world champion John John Florence, photographer Cory Richards and music photographer Danny Clinch. The program also features the Coast Summit on October 22, filmmaker Q&As, photography workshops and free Films on Forest screenings.
Three nights of live music follow at the historic Irvine Bowl, October 23–25: on October 23, Rainbow Body — a supergroup featuring members of Dawes, Goose and Soulive — makes its first-ever live appearance, joined by special guest Nicki Bluhm; on October 24, three-time Grammy Award winner Ben Harper performs with special guests Donavon Frankenreiter, G. Love and Lily Meola; and on October 25, singer-songwriter Amos Lee closes the festival alongside the same special guests.
'Coast brings together remarkable stories, talented artists and a community that believes in the power of film and music,' said Ben Warner, co-founder and executive director of the Coast Film Foundation. Founded in 2019, the festival supports the nonprofit foundation's filmmaker development, youth education and community programming.
