Follow-Up: Temecula's First Citywide Day of Service Held Oct. 17, With 12 Volunteer Projects Across the City

TEMECULA, Calif. — Temecula is a city in Riverside County, California. Temecula's first citywide Day of Service, "Temecula Together: Day of Service," took place as scheduled on Saturday, October 17. As GSM reported earlier, the City of Temecula launched the initiative under the theme "Community Serving Community," with 12 hands-on volunteer projects across the city. In on-the-day footage posted by Mayor Jessica Alexander and several participating organizations, volunteers fanned out to parks, trails and Old Town streets to pick up litter, paint fences, tidy landscaping and clean creeks.
A volunteer team from the Southwest Riverside County Association of REALTORS (SRCAR) spent the morning, 8 a.m. to noon, cleaning up around Sam Hicks Monument Park in Old Town, while the community environmental program Temecula Sustains organized a creek cleanup under the Day of Service banner, calling on residents to help care for local waterways and trails. Residents who could not attend in person took part in other ways, writing Messages of Kindness for deployed service members and donating items for military care packages through MilVet's Support Our Troops.
Mayor Jessica Alexander posted a video montage of the day on Saturday evening, showing residents of all ages in safety vests using grabbers to clear roadsides. The city has said the 12 projects were hosted with local partners including the Boys & Girls Club Southwest County, Habitat for Humanity, His Little Feet, HomeAid Inland Empire, Jacob's House and Mission Hope. The city has not yet released total volunteer or service-hour figures for the day. (Sources: City of Temecula and official social posts by the mayor and participating organizations, October 17)
