Rubio Marks Niue National Day: 52 Years of Self-Governance, First U.S. Ambassador Named This Year

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a press statement on October 18 congratulating the people of Niue on their National Day, as the South Pacific island nation marks the 52nd anniversary of its self-governance, observed as Constitution Day.
The statement called this year an important milestone in the partnership between the two countries, as the United States named its first Ambassador to Niue. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 2023.
Rubio also cited cooperation through the Pacific Islands Forum, where the Deputy Secretary recently announced U.S. support to address the global energy crisis and to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in the region, and said he looks forward to expanding cooperation in the years ahead.
