CBP Seizes More Than $657,000 in Cocaine and Methamphetamine at Del Rio Border Crossing

DEL RIO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry seized more than $657,000 in narcotics in two incidents over a four-day period, CBP announced on October 15. Both drivers were United States citizens and face criminal charges.
The first seizure occurred on October 8 at the Del Rio International Bridge, when a 23-year-old man driving a 2013 GMC Acadia was referred to secondary inspection. After a nonintrusive scan, officers physically searched the vehicle and found 16 packages containing 23.68 pounds of alleged cocaine hidden within the frame. Homeland Security Investigations agents made an arrest and opened a criminal investigation. The second seizure, on October 11 at the same bridge, involved a 54-year-old man driving a 2005 Ford Expedition; officers found 30 packages containing 37.08 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden inside the spare tire.
"In just four days, exceptional target profiling and rigorous inspections led to these significant seizures," said Acting Port Director Julian DeHoyos of the Del Rio Port of Entry. CBP seized the narcotics, and investigations are continuing.
