E.T. Creator Carlo Rambaldi Posthumously Honored With the 2,860th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

LOS ANGELES — Italian special-effects master Carlo Rambaldi was posthumously honored with the 2,860th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on October 15. The ceremony took place at 11:30 a.m. at 1611 Vine Street in Hollywood, in the Motion Pictures category, and his daughter Daniela Rambaldi accepted the star on his behalf.
Rambaldi (1925–2012), born in Vigarano Mainarda, Italy, was a pioneer of mechanical effects and animatronics who won three Academy Awards: a Special Achievement Award in 1977 for the full-size mechanical gorilla in "King Kong," Best Visual Effects in 1980 for "Alien," and Best Visual Effects again in 1983 for "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" — whose title character he created.
Entertainment journalist Silvia Bizio emceed the ceremony; speakers included Cinecittà president Antonio Saccone, actor Matt Winston and Cristina Lippolis Rambaldi, the honoree's granddaughter and president of the Rambaldi Foundation. "Carlo was a visionary whose artistry brought cinema's most unforgettable characters to life," said Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame. An E.T. animatronic head and Rambaldi's paintings and sculptures were displayed at the event.
