UFC Edmonton: Malott KOs Buckley With a Knee at 2:32 of Round 2 for a Fifth Straight Win; Jasudavicius Upsets Blanchfield by Decision
Edmonton — UFC Fight Night 291 took place on Saturday night at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In the main event, Canada's Mike Malott (15-2-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) knocked out Joaquin Buckley (21-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) at 2:32 of Round 2: Malott's head kick connected flush with his knee on Buckley's jaw, and a follow-up punch finished the job. The 34-year-old Malott extended his winning streak to five; Buckley, 32, has now lost three in a row, having entered off back-to-back defeats to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady.
In the co-feature, Jasmine Jasudavicius (16-4) pulled off an upset of Erin Blanchfield (14-3) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) in a key women's flyweight bout.
The rest of the main card: Cristian Perez knocked out Kyle Nelson with punches at 0:27 of Round 1; Marc-Andre Barriault stopped Kyle Daukaus by TKO (punches) at 4:28 of Round 1; Timmy Cuamba submitted Louis Jourdain with a neck crank at 2:48 of Round 2; and Mandel Nallo stopped Nate Landwehr by TKO (leg kick and punches) at 0:47 of Round 2. Performance of the Night bonuses of $100,000 went to Malott, Nallo, Barriault and preliminary-card winner Joel Faglier, while every other winner who finished their fight took home $25,000.
