Omaha — Berkshire Hathaway shares rose on Friday, October 16, closing at their highest level since Warren Buffett told shareholders at the May 2025 annual meeting that he planned to step down as chief executive, CNBC reported, even as the broader market sold off on hotter-than-expected inflation data. The company's Class A shares closed at $798,000, about 1.4% below their all-time high of $809,350. Earlier in the week, Barron's reported that the Class B shares had risen for nine consecutive sessions, their longest winning streak in more than two years.

Buffett retired as chief executive at the end of 2025 and was succeeded by Greg Abel on January 1, 2026. He stepped down as chairman on September 18, with his son Howard Buffett elected chairman; Warren Buffett serves as chairman emeritus and remains on the board.

Recent capital deployment under the new leadership includes a further $330 million investment in Italian technology company Bending Spoons, disclosed on October 14, bringing Berkshire's total stake to about $930 million, or roughly 4%. Berkshire holds about $360 billion in cash, according to CNBC and other reports.

Berkshire is scheduled to report third-quarter 2026 results in early November.
