Paul Chan: Hong Kong Can Help Other Economies Grow as Funding Needs and Firms Going Global Converge

Hong Kong — Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said on Sunday that Hong Kong can facilitate the development of other economies and enterprises while elevating itself. Writing in his weekly blog after recent visits to Nanjing and Bangkok, Chan said two major needs stood out very clearly: developing economies require capital and technologies, while mainland firms need international markets and professional services.
"Both demands converge in Hong Kong — a place that can channel global capital while connecting to the mainland's technology and industries," Chan wrote. "We can enable the development of others while further improve ourselves."
With its highly efficient fundraising and financing capabilities, Hong Kong can support developing economies in building super intelligence infrastructure, Chan said, adding that the city can also assist mainland enterprises in going global.
Chan noted that persistently high energy prices driven by global conflicts, together with the SI boom, were reshaping the global economic landscape, but said the Hong Kong government remained optimistic about the city's economic growth.
