HOUSTON — Houston is a city in Harris County, Texas. Houston Mayor John Whitmire officially proclaimed Wednesday, October 14, as 'Brian Ching Day' in the City of Houston during a ceremony at Shell Energy Stadium, recognizing the Houston Dynamo FC legend's career. Ching was inducted into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday and will become the inaugural inductee to the Houston Dynamo Ring of Honor on Saturday, October 17, during a halftime ceremony at the Texas Derby match against FC Dallas.

Ching spent eight seasons with the Dynamo before retiring after the 2013 season and remains the club's all-time leading scorer, with 56 goals in regular-season play and 69 in all competitions. He helped lead Houston to the 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup titles and to MLS Cup final appearances in 2011 and 2012. His individual honors include the 2004 MLS Golden Boot, MLS Comeback Player of the Year and Best XI honors in 2004, and six MLS All-Star selections.

Internationally, the Haleiwa, Hawaii native earned 45 caps and scored 11 goals for the U.S. Men's National Team from 2003 to 2010, represented the United States at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and helped the team win the 2007 Concacaf Gold Cup. The mayor's proclamation said Ching's career embodied what the city is all about: grit, hustle and resiliency.
