Malaysia Wins First-Ever World Junior Badminton Girls' Doubles Title

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia's Low Zi Yu and Genevie Lim won the girls' doubles title at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Cairo on October 17, the country's first-ever title in the event at the championships. The second seeds beat Japan's Nijika Kamata and Shizuku Kashio 15-7, 9-15, 15-12 in the final, after defeating a Chinese pair 15-9, 15-11 in the semifinals.
Low, 16, had finished runner-up with different partners in 2024 and 2025 before converting two consecutive silvers into gold; Lim, 18, shared Malaysia's first title in the event. The victory ended a wait dating to 1992 and gave Malaysia world junior champions across all five individual categories.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated the pair in a message on October 18, calling the achievement a source of national pride and a new chapter in the history of Malaysian badminton, and urged the players to maintain their form and continue representing Malaysia internationally.
