Kuala Lumpur's Zi Fang Ge Holds Chongyang Autumn Rites Today

The Zi Fang Ge chapter of the De Jiao (Moral Uplifting) association for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur holds its annual autumn rites today, Sunday, October 18 — the Double Ninth Festival — at its Shengde Hall in Kuala Lumpur, beginning with a 10 a.m. ceremony honoring the sect's masters.
De Jiao, a religious and charitable movement with roots in the Teochew community, is a fixture of Chinese Malaysian life; the Zi Fang Ge chapter also runs free medical and welfare services alongside its religious calendar. The autumn rite is a fixed annual observance timed to the Chongyang season of honoring elders and ancestors.
Chinese Malaysians keep a full lunar festival calendar. Tonight, Nine Emperor Gods festivals in Penang, Ipoh and elsewhere also reach their closing god-sending ceremonies on the same day.
Malaysia's China Press reported the Zi Fang Ge schedule in advance; the rites are open to devotees and follow the association's liturgy.
