Making Strides Breast Cancer Walks Held Across the U.S.; Central Park Event Marks 33rd Year, Tops $1.33M Raised

NEW YORK — The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks took place across the United States on October 18, one of the marquee weekends of a season that spans some 150 walk sites nationwide. In New York, the Central Park walk marked its 33rd year, with large crowds setting off from the Naumburg Bandshell on a four-mile route around the park to raise money for breast cancer research and patient services.
According to the American Cancer Society's event page, the Central Park walk has raised more than $1.33 million toward its $2 million goal for the year. Held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Making Strides is among the nation's largest breast cancer movements, drawing patients, survivors, caregivers and supporters; the walks are non-competitive and untimed.
Other walks in the New York area on Sunday included Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens and Jones Beach on Long Island, with additional events in New Jersey, Maryland and beyond. (GSM, from American Cancer Society public information)
