Two Fort Worth Affordable Communities Reopen After Renovation, Locking In Affordability for 560 Homes for at Least 30 Years

Fort Worth — April Housing and the Development Corporation of Tarrant County (DCTC) announced on October 18 the grand reopening of Meridian and Wildwood Branch Apartments, two 280-unit affordable housing communities in Fort Worth. The preservation transaction extends affordability for the combined 560 homes for at least 30 years and includes almost $50 million in community-wide renovations.
A grand reopening event was held on site at Wildwood Branch on October 14, attended by Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker, Councilmembers Carlos Flores and Macy Hill, and leaders from April Housing, DCTC, Blackstone Real Estate and PNC Bank. Parker said Fort Worth continues to grow at an extraordinary pace, making it essential that families at all income levels can find quality homes in the communities where they live and work, and called the preservation of 560 affordable homes an important investment in Fort Worth families and the long-term strength of the city.
Renovations across all 560 homes and shared spaces include renovated kitchens and bathrooms with energy-efficient appliances, replaced water heaters and split systems, modernized playgrounds, pools and fitness facilities, and rooftop solar to offset property electricity use and provide backup power during weather-related grid outages. Residents at both communities also have access at no charge to after-school tutoring, transportation services and educational classes. Meridian sits about 15 minutes northwest of downtown Fort Worth; Wildwood Branch is near Lake Worth and Marion Sansom Park, about 15 minutes from downtown.
April Housing, a Blackstone Real Estate portfolio company, says it has preserved more than 4,500 affordable homes nationwide since 2024, with Blackstone Real Estate investing more than $475 million in upgrades across those communities. In Texas alone, the company has preserved 2,800 units and invested more than $280 million over the same period. Meridian and Wildwood Branch are the third and fourth North Texas communities April Housing has fully renovated this year, following West Virginia Park Apartments in Southwest Dallas and Waterford at Goldmark in North Dallas. DCTC, established in 1999, is a nonprofit Community Housing Development Organization that develops and preserves workforce and affordable housing across Texas.
