More Than 1.5 Million Pounds of Ready-to-Eat Meats Recalled Nationwide Over Temperature Abuse, FSIS Says

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on October 17 that Kayem Foods Inc. of Chelsea, Massachusetts, is recalling more than 1.5 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products because they may have experienced temperature abuse during storage. The products — including bacon, hot dogs, sausages, turkey breasts and hams — were produced from March 31, 2026, to October 7, 2026, and some have long shelf lives; FSIS said some product may still be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers.

The recalled products bear establishment numbers "EST. M/P 7839," "EST. P 20935A" and "EST. M 9520" inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to retail and foodservice locations nationwide and to Hong Kong. The problem was discovered after the firm received a retail customer complaint on October 1 about warm product temperatures at delivery; the company then determined that a warehouse cooler storing various ready-to-eat products had experienced temperature deviations.

FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products. The agency said consumers who purchased the products should not consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
