Tyler Reddick Surges Late to Win at Phoenix Raceway for Series-Leading Sixth Victory of the Season

AVONDALE, Ariz. — Tyler Reddick of 23XI Racing used a two-tire call on the final pit stop and a bold move on the ensuing restart to win the NASCAR Cup Series Freeway Insurance 500 at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, October 18, beating polesitter Ryan Blaney by 0.801 seconds for his series-leading sixth victory of the season and his first career win at the one-mile track.
The decisive moment came under a late caution: crew chief Billy Scott's two-tire gamble launched Reddick from the restart on Lap 294, and he cleared Chase Briscoe — who had stayed out on older tires — one lap later and never looked back. The win ended a 23-race drought dating to Kansas on April 19 and was the 14th of Reddick's Cup career. Chase Elliott finished third, Christopher Bell fourth, and Briscoe faded to eighth.
The championship picture tightened dramatically. Points leader Kyle Larson blew a tire and hit the wall in the closing laps, finishing 34th, and saw his 49-point cushion largely evaporate; with three races remaining, seven drivers now sit within 56 points of the lead. "That's way too long," Reddick said of the winless streak. "This group never lost the motivation... Something about today, I had a really good feeling." (GSM, via NASCAR.com and the Arizona Republic)
