Alabama State Edges Arkansas-Pine Bluff 21-15 on the Road to Snap Two-Game Skid

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · States · GSM News

Alabama State beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 21-15 on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Simmons Bank Arena in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, snapping a two-game losing streak. The Hornets improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Hornets' red-zone defense proved decisive. Alabama State surrendered 413 yards but allowed the Golden Lions just one touchdown and forced two critical turnovers in the red zone. With 29 seconds left and Pine Bluff driving into the red zone for a possible go-ahead score, Miles Richardson recorded a sack and safety Tashawn Sims followed with an interception, allowing the Hornets to run out the clock in victory formation.

The offense was not flashy but converted its chances. Alabama State now has a bye week before facing rival Alabama A&M on Oct. 31 in Birmingham in the Magic City Classic. The head coach said the team will use the bye to fix its offensive execution ahead of the traditional rivalry game.
