Shooting at Laney High School Homecoming Event in Augusta Injures Three
A shooting occurred in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday, Oct. 17: the Richmond County Sheriff's Office confirmed that at least three people were shot and taken to a hospital in the tailgating area outside Lucy C. Laney High School on Laney Walker Boulevard, and their conditions were not yet known.
The sheriff's office said it received multiple emergency calls reporting several people shot; deputies found at least three gunshot victims at the scene and had them transported for treatment. Investigators are working to determine what happened before the shooting; as of now, authorities have not released the victims' names, ages or genders, nor any suspect description, and no arrests have been announced.
Police also said they have not confirmed whether the shooting was connected to a school-hosted sporting event or football game. The sheriff's office asked anyone with information to call investigators at 706-821-1080 or 706-821-1020; tipsters may remain anonymous. The weekend shooting near a school campus has renewed local concern about public safety, and the case remains under investigation.
