Montpelier Idaho Temple Dedicated Sunday, Becoming the State's Eighth Temple

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · States · GSM News

According to the Church Newsroom of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency, will preside at the dedication of the Montpelier Idaho Temple at 10 a.m. Mountain Time on Sunday, Oct. 18, with a rebroadcast at 2 p.m. to congregations across the temple district. It is the eighth temple dedicated in Idaho, and its district covers more than 15,000 members across Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.

The temple stands at 534 Washington Street in Montpelier on a 2.6-acre site and has two stories. Its design draws on the natural landscape of southeastern Idaho, with decorative patterns featuring chicory flowers and colors taken from local wildflowers and the waters of Bear Lake, 15 miles away.

The temple was announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson at the April 2022 general conference, and ground was broken in June 2023. After a media day on Sept. 8, 2026, the temple held a public open house from Sept. 10 to 26.

Idaho now has about 482,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 1,300 congregations. With Montpelier in service, the Teton River and Coeur d'Alene temples remain under construction, and the Caldwell temple was announced in April 2025.
