South Dakota Coyotes Rout Murray State 48-20 Behind a 41-7 Run; Third Straight Win

On Oct. 17 in an FCS college football game in Murray, Kentucky, the No. 9 South Dakota Coyotes beat the Murray State Racers 48-20 on the road for their third straight win, improving to 6-2.
The Coyotes were severely shorthanded: star running back Charles Pierre Jr., cornerback RJ Stewart and defensive lineman Isaiah Reed were out, and running back Keondre Jones-Logan missed a second straight game with a leg injury. After a slow start and a 7-0 first-quarter deficit, the team ripped off a 41-7 run to seize control. Quarterback Austyn Modrzewski went 17 of 27 for 153 yards with three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown, plus one interception; wide receiver Brayden White caught seven passes for 78 yards and two scores. Backup running backs Carson Fletcher, Reed Watkins and Courtney Rivers shared the ground load, with Rivers scoring the game's final touchdown with 1:12 left.
On defense, Harrison Breen recovered two of the opponent's three fumbles and led a front that repeatedly forced turnovers. With top seed South Dakota State, No. 4 Lehigh and No. 7 Montana all losing this round, the Coyotes could climb further in next week's rankings.
