Alaska Proclaims October 12-16 Employment First Awareness Week

JUNEAU — Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy proclaimed October 12-16, 2026 as Employment First Awareness Week in Alaska, highlighting efforts supporting integrated, competitive employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
The proclamation states that Alaska became an Employment First state in 2014, setting a goal to ensure people with disabilities have access to information, training, resources and programs that expand opportunities for meaningful employment at competitive wages. It recognizes the state's disability employment network — educators, service providers, employers, community partners, vocational rehabilitation providers and self-advocates — as well as youth training programs preparing young Alaskans for the workforce. "I encourage Alaskans to recognize the impact of employment programs and the value of competitive, integrated employment as the preferred option for people with disabilities," Dunleavy said.
