Plot for Mass Shooting at Aurora Hindu Temple Foiled; 19-Year-Old Arrested, Rep. Krishnamoorthi Speaks Out

AURORA — A planned mass shooting at a Hindu temple in Aurora, Illinois, was foiled last week. According to multiple reports, on Sunday, October 11, 19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis of Palatine allegedly went to the Sri Venkateswara Swami (Balaji) Temple intending to carry out a mass shooting targeting Indian worshippers; his rifle jammed. A coworker's tip led police to arrest him, and a search of his home turned up a rifle, magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a tactical vest.
U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi was worshipping at the temple with his family at the time. He condemned the plot in a statement on October 15 and spoke out again in recent days, calling for action against anti-Indian hate. The investigation is ongoing. (GSM, based on multiple media reports)
