Indiana Sends Commerce Secretary to Japan to Deepen Economic Partnership

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced on October 13 that Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich will travel to Japan this week to strengthen the state's economic ties, following last month's 56th annual joint meeting of the Midwest-U.S. Japan Association and the Japan-Midwest Association in Indianapolis.
Japan-based businesses operate in 60 of Indiana's 92 counties and have committed to investing more than $10 billion in the state since 2005, according to the governor's office. Japan is Indiana's largest foreign investor, accounting for more than 27% of its international businesses, and Indiana leads the U.S. in Japanese investment per capita, with 290 Japanese business facilities supporting nearly 62,000 Hoosier jobs. In Japan, Goodrich will visit Tokyo and the manufacturing hub of Nagoya to meet executives of Japanese businesses with Indiana operations and Indiana companies with facilities in Japan, including Eli Lilly and Company. "Indiana is proud to have built a nearly 40-year partnership with Japan that has provided countless talent development and career opportunities for Hoosiers," Braun said.
