Judge Orders Maryland Governor to Answer Baltimore Sun Co-Owner's Discovery Requests by Oct. 26

An Anne Arundel County Circuit Court judge ruled on Oct. 16 that Maryland Gov. Wes Moore must respond by Oct. 26 to written questions and document requests from David Smith, co-owner of The Baltimore Sun, according to Baltimore-area media reports on Oct. 17. Judge Mark Crooks also denied Moore's motion to pause discovery, so evidence gathering in the case will continue. In his defamation lawsuit, Smith alleges that Moore distorted his remarks about President Trump and implied a connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein; Moore denies the allegations and argues his statements are protected by the First Amendment. The ruling did not address the merits of either side's claims, and the case will proceed on both discovery and the motion to dismiss.
