Puget Sound Energy Breaks Ground on 130-Megawatt Battle Butte Solar Project in Montana

Washington-state utility Puget Sound Energy (PSE) announced on Oct. 15 that it has broken ground on the Battle Butte solar project near Rapelje in Stillwater County, south-central Montana. The 130-megawatt solar farm, covering about 1,400 acres, is expected to power 20,000 homes and create about 250 construction jobs. Construction starts this fall, with completion expected by mid-2028.
The project is part of the clean-energy portfolio PSE is building to comply with Washington's Clean Energy Transformation Act and cut fossil-fuel generation. It sits next to the company's 248-megawatt Beaver Creek wind project and can share transmission infrastructure. Craig Pospisil, PSE's senior vice president and chief development officer, called the project a key part of the company's clean-energy strategy. Stillwater County Commissioner Roger Webb said it will bring construction jobs, tax revenue and new economic activity to the area.
