North Carolina Edges Duke 24-20 to Reclaim the Victory Bell for the First Time Since 2023

The University of North Carolina football team beat rival Duke 24-20 on Oct. 17 at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, taking the Victory Bell back to Chapel Hill. It was North Carolina's first win over Duke since 2023 and head coach Bill Belichick's first victory over the Blue Devils since taking over the Tar Heels.
The finish was dramatic: North Carolina led 17-0 before Duke scored 20 straight points to move ahead 20-17 in the fourth quarter, but Jaylen McGill's 24-yard touchdown run with 1:53 left put the Tar Heels back in front 24-20. Duke's final drive reached North Carolina territory before quarterback Walker Eget's pass was intercepted by freshman Kenton Dopson in the closing seconds. North Carolina improved to 4-2 (2-1 ACC) and hosts Syracuse on Oct. 24.
