President Approves FEMA Assistance for Four Oklahoma Counties After July Storms

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · States · GSM News

OKLAHOMA CITY — President Donald Trump has approved Oklahoma's request for federal disaster assistance following severe storms and straight-line winds that hit parts of the state in early July. Governor Kevin Stitt submitted the state's request for a Major Disaster Declaration on September 2. The declaration covers Cleveland, Osage, Nowata and Washington counties and will provide Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) public assistance to local governments, tribes and rural electric cooperatives.

The storms, which included straight-line winds of more than 90 mph, caused more than $8.2 million in eligible damages and response costs across the four counties, according to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM). The federal assistance will help pay for debris removal, infrastructure repairs and utility repairs.

"I appreciate President Trump approving our request and helping these four counties get the resources they need to recover," Stitt said. "This assistance will help our local communities repair critical infrastructure and ensure Oklahoma taxpayers aren't left shouldering the cost of these storms alone." OEM Executive Director Annie Mack Vest said OEM will continue working with FEMA and local jurisdictions throughout the recovery process, and OEM Chief Operations Officer John Dean will serve as the State Coordinating Officer for the disaster.
