Oklahoma Falls 21-13 to Kentucky as Mateer Throws Three Second-Half Interceptions

Kentucky beat Oklahoma 21-13 on Oct. 17 in Norman. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer threw three second-half interceptions, which decided the game: with 1:17 left, Jordan Castell intercepted him over the middle and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown that sealed the result, and Ty Bryant picked him off again on the final possession. Mateer finished 24-of-40 for 240 yards and a touchdown.
Oklahoma was using its fourth different starting offensive-line combination of the season and never sustained its offense. “They made the plays when they needed to, and we weren't able to get it done as a staff or as a team,” head coach Brent Venables said. Offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle conceded the team “had opportunities there at the end.” Mateer took responsibility afterward: “I had enough time; you've got to deliver.” Oklahoma fell to 3-3 (1-2 SEC), while Kentucky improved to 6-1 (4-1 SEC).
