Wyoming QB Hughes Scores Four Rushing Touchdowns in 41-23 Win over Northern Illinois

The Wyoming Cowboys beat Northern Illinois 41-23 on Oct. 17 at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, before a crowd of 20,065. Quarterback Tyler Hughes turned in a signature performance: 16-of-19 passing for 196 yards, plus 183 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns — the most rushing touchdowns in a game by a Wyoming player since the 2021 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. “Tyler set the tone today; he played loose and free,” head coach Jay Sawvel said. Wyoming totaled 510 yards of offense, scored on all five red-zone trips and committed no turnovers. After Hughes left in the fourth quarter following a hit, backup Landon Sims sealed the win with an 11-yard rushing touchdown. Wyoming improved to 4-3 (3-1 in its Mountain West division) and is now 3-0 all-time against Northern Illinois. The Cowboys host Air Force next Friday night.
