[Video] DC's Clayface Opens October 23: $40 Million Budget, Tracking Points to $30 Million-Plus Debut

LOS ANGELES — Warner Bros.' DC Studios film Clayface opens in North American theaters on October 23, with international markets starting two days earlier. According to Boxoffice Pro and other tracking services, a solid start to ticket pre-sales has pushed the latest tracking to a domestic opening of more than $30 million, at or above the top of Boxoffice Pro's initial $23 million to $33 million long-range range, against a reported production budget of about $40 million.
Directed by James Watkins and starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, Clayface is an R-rated body-horror film and the third entry in the DC Universe overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, following Superman and Supergirl. It follows Gotham actor Matt Hagen, disfigured by a crime boss, who undergoes an experimental treatment that restores his face but gradually transforms him into a creature of living clay.
The film is produced by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, Gunn and Safran, and was shot in part at Leavesden Studios in England.
