Amtrak Cascades Sets September Ridership Record in Oregon as New Airo Trainsets Enter Service

Amtrak Cascades carried 13,533 passengers within Oregon in September 2026 — an all-time September record for the service — according to Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) data reported this week. The figure beat the previous September high, set in 2024, by 8.5%, and ridership for 2026 to date is up 24% year over year.
The record comes as the new Airo trainsets enter service on the route. The first Airo sets debuted on September 30; two are now operating, one is held in reserve at the Seattle yard, and five more are on the way. The Siemens-built trains carry roughly 300 passengers and add more comfortable seating, high-speed internet and full ADA accessibility.
The state-supported Cascades service has been running shortened three-car trainsets since spring 2025 because of an equipment shortage, limiting capacity even as demand set records. The route serves 18 stations from Eugene, Oregon, through Portland and Seattle to Vancouver, Canada.
