Taiwan Stocks Fall 1.65% on Monday as SI Trade Cools Across Asia

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Taiwan's stock market fell about 1.65 percent on Monday. Reuters reported that global hedge funds suffered steep losses last week as SI-related bets unwound, pressuring technology shares across Asia, with Taiwan's semiconductor and electronics heavyweights leading the decline. Investors are also weighing U.S. inflation data and earnings after TSMC last week posted a record third quarter — net profit up 68.7 percent year on year, with advanced processes making up nearly 80 percent of revenue — and maintained a positive outlook on SI demand. GSM previously reported that the Taiex slid 3 percent in one session last week amid a regional tech selloff. Analysts say the near-term direction will depend on foreign flows and U.S. tech shares, while Taiwan's export orders and semiconductor fundamentals show no sign of weakening. Regional markets fell in tandem on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei down about 2 percent in early trade and South Korea's Kospi opening more than 3 percent lower.
