Cold Front Stalls Over Southern Mexico, Flooding More Than 1,500 Homes in Veracruz

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · World News · GSM News

MEXICO CITY — More than 1,500 homes have been affected by floodwaters in Mexico's southern state of Veracruz after Cold Front No. 2 stalled over the region and brought extraordinary and torrential rainfall, Reuters reported on October 18. Federal, state and municipal authorities are carrying out cleanup and recovery operations as water levels gradually recede.

Mexico's National Civil Protection Coordination said authorities are closely monitoring river and reservoir levels in Veracruz, Tabasco, Chiapas and Oaxaca. Strong northerly winds and waves of up to 6 meters (20 feet) have also caused coastal flooding and road closures in parts of Tabasco.

The cold front is a separate weather system from Hurricane Trudy, which is moving away from Mexico's Pacific coast on the other side of the country. (GSM, based on Reuters reporting)
