Trump Tells Newsmax U.S. Is Looking at Striking Iran's Pickaxe Mountain Site, Says War Will End Soon

WASHINGTON — In a Newsmax interview aired October 15, President Donald Trump said the United States is looking at possible action against Iran's suspected underground Pickaxe Mountain nuclear site. "Now, we're looking at Pickaxe Mountain. We may have to go there," he said. "We'll take a shot at that one. We'll knock it out fast." Asked whether the operation would involve American ground troops, he replied, "No, I don't see that."
Trump said U.S. forces had already inflicted severe damage on Iran's nuclear infrastructure, but argued that withdrawing before eliminating the possibility of Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons could require further action within a year. The goal, he said, is to make sure Iran "will never have a nuclear weapon." He also raised the possible use of the non-nuclear MOAB, the massive air-blast bomb first used in combat in April 2017 against an Islamic State tunnel complex in Afghanistan. Officials have questioned in media reports whether a surface-blast weapon could destroy deeply buried nuclear facilities.
Trump said Iran is negotiating with Washington and has asked the U.S. and Israel to halt military operations. "The Iran war will be over very soon. One way or the other, it's going to end," he said, predicting oil and gasoline prices would then drop sharply.
