HONG KONG — The access road from Ko Chiu Road to the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery is under a full closure on Sunday, October 18, the Chung Yeung Festival day, from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., with no vehicles admitted except emergency vehicles, according to a Transport Department notice on special traffic and transport arrangements for the festival. Grave-sweepers must reach the cemetery on foot.

The notice says visitors may use the Board of Management of the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries footpath opposite MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station, or the access road on Ko Chiu Road. As the footpath has staircases, wheelchair users are advised to use the Ko Chiu Road access. On the general closure days — October 11, 17, 19, 24 and 25 and November 1 and 8 — the access road is closed from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. except for emergency vehicles, KMB Special Route 14S, hearses, funeral procession vehicles and permit holders; Route 14S runs between Yau Tong and the cemetery from 7:30 a.m. to 5:25 p.m. on those days, and the festival day is not among its operating days.

The department said traffic signs would mark the closures and guide motorists, and that actual road closures, traffic control and public transport diversions would be implemented by police in light of on-the-ground conditions, with officers on site to direct traffic.
