South Africa's Former President Zuma Discharged from Hospital, Back to MK Party Work

PIETERMARITZBURG — Former South African president Jacob Zuma has been discharged from hospital after an 11-day stay and has returned home to attend to party matters ahead of the November 4 local government elections, his MK Party said on October 17.
The 84-year-old was admitted to Netcare St Anne's Hospital on October 6 after becoming unwell during an MK Party campaign event in Msinga, KwaZulu-Natal. His prolonged stay prompted days of speculation about his condition, including conflicting reports about whether he had been discharged; the party had earlier called for calm, and Zuma's family appealed for privacy while he received treatment.
“Following a routine medical check-up, President Jacob Zuma's highly skilled medical team identified fatigue and recommended a period of rest under medical supervision,” MK Party national spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu said in a statement. “The president duly took the necessary time to rest and recuperate under the care and supervision of his doctors. The president is healthy and jovial.” The party said Zuma was pleased with work being done in wards and branches ahead of the poll, and thanked his medical team, South Africans at home and abroad, and members of the diplomatic community who had enquired about his condition.
