Yo-Yo Ma Brings New Project to Taipei's National Concert Hall, With Indigenous Voices and Two More Taiwan Dates

TAIPEI — Cellist Yo-Yo Ma opened his Taiwan concert series at the National Concert Hall in Taipei on Oct. 18, presenting a new special project that weaves classical music together with theatre, visuals and Indigenous voices in a cross-cultural programme.
According to presenter MNA (Management of New Arts), Ma is joined on stage by Canadian Indigenous singer Jeremy Dutcher, pianist Yun Janice Lu and violinist Keila Wakao. Taiwan's TBT Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe also performs, bringing Paiwan traditional songs into the hall.
After the Taipei opening, the series continues with a second National Concert Hall performance on Oct. 19 and concludes on Oct. 21 at the National Taichung Theater.
Born in Paris in 1955 to Chinese parents, Ma founded the Silkroad project to foster cross-cultural musical collaboration. Placing Taiwan's Indigenous music at the heart of this programme is the latest expression of that mission.
